It occurred to me that I have a somewhat morbid obsession: I can’t help but visit each cemetery I encounter when I’m abroad. For instance, a few weeks back I was in Edinburgh and visited three different graveyards in only four days.

By the way, this is where the great empiricist thinker David Hume rests in peace (Calton Hill). Personally, I’m more of a rationalism-oriented Spinozist though.

For some reason I can’t explain burying grounds attract me (especially at night), even though I’m not at all fascinated by death. No, I don’t I have any other morbid hobbies either. I don’t even like horror movies.
Slightly creepy…

This is how Gouda looks by night these days:
Illuminated town hall and christmas tree
Every once in a while, the projected patterns and colors change:

I think it is really strange that Tango artist Andreas questions the existence of someone else. I have strong evidence (shot during Guadec) that Andreas is a ghost himself:

I’m back from ΚÏήτη (Crete). Mostly relaxed; I did not do much besides attending a wedding party (and getting slightly drunk), visiting Spinalonga and reading in a few books (both unfinished):
Some photos:
Agios Nikolaos by night
Church in Agios Nikolaos
Boat in Agios Nikolaos
Holy book (Orthodox)
Spinalonga
More photos in the Crete photo album.

My blog has been inactive for a while. Reason: I’ve been busy working lately. We also found a new place to live. Hopefully I can move in soon; I might post some pictures later once we’ve settled.
Additionally, I have been spending some time trying to have a Real Life. Apart from my trip to Birmingham for Guadec (some pictures later perhaps), I’ve been making some day trips over the past few weekends. A few weeks ago, the canal parade during Gay Pride in Amsterdam: over 70 boats and over half a million people (covering all sexual orientations) having fun.

Last saturday I wandered around in the forest near Zeist with some family. Met with some friends later that day and had dinner and some drinks in the beautiful city of Gouda, in which I live.

Meat, ehm… Bambi. No, this is not my meal.

More meat
Today I spent the whole day at the Scheveningen beach watching the Dutch national beach volleybal championship finals, in which my brother played. Fifth place, pretty well done I think. No pictures, sorry.

I should have updated my hackergotchi long time ago… figured it makes sense to do so before attending Guadec.

On the left side my old hackergotchi is shown; the new one is on the right.
That’s right, I have irresistible long hair now! Oh, the tan is just a camera flash/gimp artefact. My skin colour has not changed that much over the last two years…

I’ve recently visited someone who is a (foreign) student at the National University of Ireland in Maynooth.
Note: Before you start clicking all photos, please read until the end of this post. There’s a link to the complete photo album (with even more photos) there.
The country is great, although it was pretty cold… the rented car was nice and warm, though.
Of course I also visited Dublin, walked around the city and visited several well-known places such as Trinity College, the Dublin Castle and the Christ Church Cathedral. Luckily I wasn’t in the city centre during the Saturday riots. Stupid people.
We spent the last night listening to a concert in the National Concert Hall performed by the UCD Sinfonia orchestra, the University College Dublin resident symphony orchestra, playing four pieces of music:
Do you want more? I’ve made some more photos available as a photo album.
